The KDES nurse’s office is an extension of Gallaudet University’s Student Health Services department and is used to provide medical care to the KDES student community. The nurse’s office works in a supportive role to the students’ primary healthcare provider to ensure each KDES student is safe and healthy while at school. Part of this process requires the KDES nurse to collect annual medical forms that are required by the DC Department of Health and work with individual families and healthcare providers for students with unique medical needs.

Below are examples of the services provided by Student Health Service:

• Assessment and treatment of common illness and injuries
• Dispensing of prescription medications during school hours
• Covid-19 and Flu A/B rapid testing
• Local medical provider recommendations for families
• Health education appropriate for each grade level
